Easy Soft-boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

Before I had my Instant Pot, soft-boiled eggs intimidated me. It felt like a confusing extra step so I’d always just skip it. Now that I can pressure cook them, they come out perfectly every time and I’m not sitting there too paralyzed to even try. Once you try it in the Instant Pot you’ll see what I mean. My favorite things to eat with soft-boiled eggs are ramen and avocado toast!

The Process

You’re going to start by removing your eggs from the fridge. I always make soft-boiled eggs with eggs that are still “fridge cold”. Next, add a trivet or steamer basket, your eggs, and 1 cup of water to your Instant Pot. You can add as many eggs as you’d like as long as you stay below the “max fill” line.

Now lock your lid in place and Pressure Cook for 3 minutes. While it’s cooking grab a bowl of ice water. This will be used to stop the cooking after the eggs are done! When it’s done go ahead and Quick Release the pressure. When all the pressure has been released, remove the lid and place your eggs into the ice bath for 5 minutes. Assuming you plan to eat them right away, the eggs should still be warm enough to enjoy after 5 minutes. Gently peel them and enjoy!

FAQ

Do I need to use a trivet or steamer basket?

Yes, the trivet keeps the eggs from sitting on the inner pot which would cause the eggs to get too hot, cook unevenly, and potentially get burn marks.

Can I use room-temperature eggs?

Yes, you can, it will be slightly more done than if you use eggs straight from the fridge. Since eggs are so personal and inexpensive it’s the perfect food to test out different methods and see which way you like it the best!

How many eggs can I pressure cook at once?

You can add as many as you’d like as long as you don’t go past the “max fill” line. The time will be the same!

Can I refrigerate soft-boiled eggs?

You can, but reheating them can be tricky so it’s really best to eat them right away.
